A new perspective on psychological health
We live in an age of unprecedented technological advancement.
Every day, the fabric of reality is being re-written by the minute, by millions & millions around the globe.
The explosion of technology over recent decades has brought with it a massive expansion of economic opportunity.
And yet amidst this accelerating advancement, something seems to be amiss:
• We are more productive than ever, yet we feel more stressed & anxious
• We can communicate more easily than ever, yet we feel more disconnected
• We have access to more information than ever, yet we feel more uncertain of what to believe
What the hell is going on here?
I propose a simple answer: we, as a society, have focused so much on the evolution of the external, in recent decades, that we have forgotten about the *internal* evolution that is necessary to maintain balance.
Carl Jung identified the emergence of this trend almost a century ago in the 1930’s:
“…society [today] does not value these feats of the psyche very highly…
Everyone can call to mind friends or schoolmates who were promising and idealistic youngsters, but who, when we meet them again years later, seem to have grown dry and cramped in a narrow mould…
Many—far too many—aspects of life which should have been experienced, lie in the lumber-room among dusty memories; but sometimes, too, they are glowing coals under grey ashes.”
Jung would be pleased to know that these glowing coals are beginning to burn brighter and catch flame once again in our current age, as society starts to realize that the inner dimensions need to be tended to in order to achieve balance in a chaotic world.
And I do mean balance.
Not forsaking one extreme for the other, but rather ensuring each of our inner worlds reflect the full abundance of the outer world, and vice versa, in order to enhance our experience of both.
Sounds pretty nice.
So how do we do this?
The answer lies in a renewed focus on personal development & psychological growth.
A New Perspective on Psychological Health
There was a time when people only worried about their physical health when it deteriorated, at which point they sought treatment from doctors.
Now, we understand that a proactive focus on health & wellness helps us to not only avoid illness, but also to thrive in our day-to-day lives.
Optimal performance in any life endeavor is supported by a foundation of optimal physical health.
Why should our psychological health be any different?
Therapy is a wonderful thing to help address issues of the psyche, but we don’t have to wait for our psychological health to deteriorate before we start doing anything about it.
Those people who are the most successful in life (by their own definition), the most fulfilled, and the happiest already realize this.
There is an abundance of research & knowledge from the psychological sciences and countless philosophical traditions that, when taken together, serve to light the way towards deep psychological wellbeing & happiness.
We can all leverage this knowledge to follow that light and proactively climb "the psychological staircase” of our own being. Read on here to learn how....
