About us.
Hi, I'm Sean Crowley.
I've always been obsessed with how the world works. As an undergrad at Cornell University I ate up classes on economics, government, psychology, and philosophy. Later I got an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, where I focused on the science of management and organizational behavior. Most recently I was a strategy consultant in the field of education, working with universities, companies, investors, and non-profits across the United States.
But if you cut back to a little over a decade ago, I was a newly minted Ivy Leaguer, working in a prestigious investment job, living in the city with my friends, yet frequently feeling anxious, unhappy, and unfulfilled. Luckily, I realized that for all my education I knew very little about the things that really made a difference in life. It started me on a journey to learn everything I could about achieving real success and finding true happiness.
Things like:
- How to cultivate a mindset that gives you strength and courage to get what you want out of life
- How to make good money without sacrificing your relationships, your health, and your sanity
- How to find a career you really love that builds on your strengths
- How to experience more happiness in the day to day
I read books, scoured the internet, and picked up everything I could from people I came across who seemed to have it figured out. And it changed my life profoundly.
What I believe
Traditional education can be great, but is often incomplete: I'm a first generation college graduate myself and attending Cornell was a transformative experience for me. That being said, there were some incredibly important lessons that I had to learn elsewhere. Some schools are recognizing this and slowly starting to change. But if you are anxious, unhappy, or confused, it may be because you haven't been taught how to be otherwise. But you can be.
Real change requires real work: Social media is overflowing with hollow motivational quotes, absurd morning routines, and the offer of shortcuts to success. I'm not here to bombard you with quotes. As anyone who I've managed can tell you, I don't care how early you wake up. And I won't lie to you about what it takes to make change in your life. I'm here for those who want the truth, who want to put in work, and want more out of life.
The best wisdom comes from many different sources: I get why people create websites and products purporting that the hidden secret to wealth/health/happiness comes from one specific philosophy or industry or place. It makes for a great story and is super marketable. But I'm more interested in what works than creating a nice story. I aim to share the best of human knowledge, whether it comes from ancient philosophers, self-made millionaires, modern neuroscientists, or anywhere else.
